On a recent visit to NYC, I went by the cemetery to visit the grave my great grandmother who died in 1914 and was buried there. But it appears she was planted in a section of cemetery for the poor folks as all the markers were small compared to all the others there which are big. If she had a plaque, it was worn and faded as I could not find it much to my disappointment. But the visit was worthwhile just to have stood on the grounds where she was buried in 1914 was memorable. Plus if one is interested in historical cemeteries as Green-wood then you have hit the mother-lode.
Carpe Diem.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5206380617235471991.post-12163258140918103102010-10-12T08:33:55.224-04:002010-10-12T08:33:55.224-04:00I ended up taking my 2 year old daughter to Wave H...I ended up taking my 2 year old daughter to Wave Hill, which I've never heard of or been to. The day was gorgeous and it was beautiful. We missed all the tours, but just walking around the grounds and watching the Hudson was absolutely breathtaking! Thanks for the list! There were so many choices for Open House NYC, that I don't think I would have found this one on my own! We will have to go back when the leaves change! I was at the Grand Lodge and it was surreal and interesting. This year (if I was fortune to be there, which I´m not) I would also recommend The Salmagundi Club and "Snohetta AS,NY", which (if I read the description correctly) would mean access to the historic Cunard Building (murals and all).
Enjoy the weekend!!
